Основными целями такого центра определены организация и проведение закупок лекарственных средств в рамках федеральных программ. Соответствующее распоряжение Правительства РФ от 28 октября 2020 г. № 2798-р1 подписал премьер-министр РФ Михаил Мишустин. Сообщается, что центр займется закупками препаратов для лечения пациентов с орфанными и онкологическими заболеваниями, ВИЧ и туберкулезом, а также вакцин, входящих в национальный календарь прививок.
Кроме того, организация будет осуществлять мониторинг закупок лекарств и прогнозировать их потребность в регионах. Расходы, связанные с созданием и функционированием центра, будут производиться в пределах бюджетных ассигнований, предусмотренных для Минздрава России.
