Сергей Собянин подписал указ от 29 декабря 2020 г. № 127-УМ, которым продлены зимние каникулы для московских школьников на неделю, до 17 января. Соответственно, до указанной даты будет приостановлено использование социальных карт учащимися 6 – 11 классов для льготного проезда на общественном транспорте.
Кроме того, длинные каникулы предусмотрены также для колледжей, учреждений дополнительного образования детей и спортивных школ, подведомственных Правительству Москвы. Мэр Москвы рекомендовал и негосударственным образовательным учреждениям принять аналогичное решение.

Отмечено, что в период каникул дистанционные занятия проводиться не будут. По желанию школьники могут изучать новый материал с помощью Московской электронной школы.
По мнению Сергея Собянина, длинные школьные каникулы позволят стабилизировать заболеваемость коронавирусом на более низком уровне, чем сейчас, и избежать введения новых ограничений.
